Islamabad Traffic Police has deployed more than 450 officers and personnel as part of a comprehensive traffic management strategy for the holy month of Ramadan, with special squads assigned to take strict legal action against one-wheeling on highways.
According to a statement today, the plan was finalised during a high-level meeting at the Traffic Headquarters Faizabad, chaired by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Capt. (retd) Hamzah Humayun. The gathering included SP Traffic Majid Iqbal, DSPs from all zones, and other key officials.
During the session, the CTO issued directives for managing traffic flow around Masjids, Imambargahs, and commercial centres, with a specific focus on Sehri, Iftar, and Taraweeh prayer timings.
He instructed officers to maintain close coordination with the administrations of places of worship to establish effective parking systems. Special traffic squads will also be positioned at Ramadan bazaars and markets to ensure order.
To further assist the public, traffic police help desks will be established at five major centres after Iftar to facilitate residents visiting markets.
A separate traffic plan has also been formulated specifically to provide the best possible parking facilities for worshippers attending Faisal Mosque.
In a move to boost morale, the CTO instructed senior officers to observe Sehri and Iftar in the field alongside their personnel. He also underscored that all staff must maintain a positive attitude and strengthen public relations.
Emphasising a zero-tolerance policy for poor conduct, Humayun warned that any misconduct with citizens would not be tolerated and would result in strict action, with guilty officers being made an example for others.
SP Traffic and Zonal DSPs are required to remain present in the field to oversee operations. The CTO stated that providing maximum traffic-related facilities is the force”s foremost responsibility, in line with the vision of IGP Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.
