Sports: Cricket: Former Supreme Court judge to hear Umar Akmal’s appeal

Karachi:Former Supreme Court judge Mr Justice (retd) Faqir Muhammad Khokhar has been appointed as an independent adjudicator to hear Umar Akmal’s appeal against the three-year ban for breaching the PCB Anti-Corruption Code in two separate incidents.

The independent adjudicator will now decide on the date of the appeal hearing. As soon as this is confirmed, the PCB will make the announcement. Earlier, PCB’s Chairman of the Independent Disciplinary Panel, Justice (retired) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan imposed a three-year ban on Umar Akmal for each of the two charges of violating the PCB Anti-Corruption Code.

Justice Chauhan in his remarks said: “It appears that he (Umar Akmal) is not prepared to show remorse and seek apology, make admission that he failed to fulfill his responsibility under Anti-Corruption Code rather he tried to take refuge under the pretext that in the past whenever any such approaches were made, the matter was reported by him.” However, Umar Akmal had appealed against the ban and now Justice Faqir Mohammad Khokhar will hear his case.
