Vaccinators stage protest for job restoration

KARACHI:Community Based Vaccinators (CBVs) on Monday staged a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC) for restoration on their jobs.

The protesters, carrying banners and placards inscribed with different slogans, said vaccinators had performed their duties to save children from diseases but unfortunately they been terminated from their jobs during lockdown in Sindh.

However, Spokesperson of Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) for polio in Sindh said a new strategy will be adopted and good performers will be retained.

He said this recommendation was endorsed by the National Polio Management Team (NPMT) in its meeting chaired by the Minister of State for NHSR and C in November 2019 and participated by the Provincial EOC Coordinators, EPI Managers and PEI teams and was also advised by the technical advisory group on polio in 2019.

The Polio Programme is constantly looking for improvement in strategies for better implementation of the Polio programme with an efficient use of resources. He said T Polio Programme in Pakistan is currently facing a challenging situation in polio eradication with the upsurge of number of polio cases. The programme has conducted several management reviews to adjust and deliver its basic core strategies for polio eradication in 2020, including programmatic review of its core operational strategy of Community Based Vaccination (CBV).

He said in Sindh, only Karachi has CBV modality and it will continue in the rest of Karachi while a new strategy will be implemented in the 89 UCs. He said Pakistan Polio Eradication programme is committed to ensure vaccine for every child with a renewed commitment and taking necessary steps to deliver Polio vaccine though the five national and provincial Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs).
