At the conclusion of the COMSATS University Abbottabad Sports Festival, the Computer Science Engineering Tigers won the cricket trophy thanks to bowler Akash Irfan’s brilliant five-wicket haul, including a hat-trick, in the decisive final against the Civil Engineering team.

Opting to bat first on Sunday morning, the Computer Science Department team set a strong target of 185 runs in the allotted 20 overs. The highlight of the innings was a brilliant half-century by Ahmed Rawad Khan, while Abubakar Sahib, Aun Abbas, and Al-Haj Noori also made significant contributions.

In response, the Civil Department team failed to achieve the target and was restricted to 142 runs. Sufyan Ahmed and Waqar Khan showed excellent batting, but a lack of support from the rest of the lineup made a successful chase impossible.

The Tigers’ victory is largely credited to their brilliant bowling attack. Akash Irfan was the standout performer, taking five wickets for just 22 runs. He was well supported by Aun Abbas with three wickets and Mamoon Naveed Abbasi with two.

While receiving the trophy, team captain Ahmed Khan Durrani attributed the success to collective efforts and the players’ passion for the game. He emphasized that alongside education, sports promote positive thinking, strengthen bonds of friendship, and reduce animosity among students.

The players also appealed to the university administration and their department for more encouragement by attending the matches. They expressed immense gratitude to the five former captains who came from remote areas of the country to support them in the final match.
