Sports – Pakistan Women Shatter Records in Dominant ODI Victory Ahead of World Cup

The Pakistan women’s cricket team delivered a commanding performance against Zimbabwe in the opening One-Day International in Karachi, achieving a monumental 168-run victory and setting multiple national records, signalling strong preparation for the upcoming ICC Women”s T20 World Cup.

Sent into bat by Zimbabwe captain Nomvelo Sibanda, Pakistan amassed an imposing total of 330/5. Four players registered half-centuries, led by Sadaf Shamas” impressive 98 at the top of the order, according to a report on Tuesday.

Support came from Sidra Amin (67), Najiha Alvi (56), and Gull Feroza (50). Alvi’s rapid fifty, achieved in fewer than 24 deliveries, now stands as the quickest half-century by any Pakistan player in women”s ODIs. The opening partnership of 162 between Shamas and Feroza also marked the third-highest for any wicket by Pakistan in women”s 50-over contests.

In response, Zimbabwe struggled to build momentum, with Beloved Biza”s 53 being the sole significant contribution. Pakistan”s bowlers, expertly led by captain Fatima Sana, who claimed 2/28, ensured the visitors were comfortably outmatched. The substantial 168-run winning margin is Pakistan”s second-largest in terms of runs in women”s ODIs.

This dominant display serves as an excellent audition for Pakistan ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to commence in England and Wales on 12 June. The team has been drawn in Group 1, with fixtures against formidable opponents including Australia, Bangladesh, India, Netherlands, and South Africa.

The ongoing ODI series against Zimbabwe continues with two more matches in Karachi, set for Wednesday and Saturday. Following these, the two nations will compete in a three-match T20I series, providing further crucial preparation before the global tournament.
