Islamabad, February 10, 2023 (PPI-OT):The first virtual meeting between the parliamentary friendships groups of Pakistan and Uzbekistan was held on Thursday, 9th February, 2023 at Parliament House, Islamabad. From Pakistan side, the meeting was chaired by Ms. Shahida Rehmani, Convener Pakistan-Uzbekistan Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG). From Uzbek side, Ms. Zulaykho Akramova chaired the meeting. The two sides discussed matters pertaining to bilateral cooperation.
Ms. Shahida Rehmani, Convener Pakistan-Uzbekistan expressed her desire to expand cooperation with Pakistan in multiple areas including trade, defence, education, regional connectivity and people -to- people relations. She stated that Tashkent and Islamabad have been bounded by historic caravan roads, industrial linkages, and integration connections.
Ms. Zulaykho Akramova, Chairperson Uzbekistan-Pakistan Inter-Parliamentary Group mentioned that Parliamentary Friendship Groups of both countries could play a pivotal role in promoting parliamentary diplomacy, people to people contacts and augment parliamentary relations.
She assured that existing bilateral relations between two countries will strengthen further through mutual cooperation, understanding and interactions at all levels. She expressed her commitment to revive the traditional cooperative partnership through improved connectivity to boost bilateral ties.
Members from both sides underscored the huge existing opportunities for cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, science and technology. Both sides agreed to focus on new activities of the Intergovernmental Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, and other joint institutions.
