Subsidized Stalls Established in Khairpur to Overcome Flour Crisis

In response to the severe flour crisis in Khairpur district, the local administration, in collaboration with mill owners, has decided to establish subsidized flour stalls in all eight talukas, starting from Thursday.

The initiative aims to alleviate the shortage by providing flour to the public at a controlled rate of Rs 105 per kilogram. The plan was finalized after a key meeting held on Wednesday at Sachal Sarmast Hall, DC Office Khairpur.

The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Riaz Hussain Shaikh, during which the distribution of wheat issued by the Food Department to flour mills and chakkis, pricing, and other related matters were reviewed.

It was decided that the subsidized stalls are an immediate measure, while decisions regarding further relief measures for the public will be made in a meeting next week.

Mr. Shaikh directed the Assistant Commissioners to visit the subsidized stalls daily and submit regular progress reports. He, in turn, requested that the secretaries of Market and Town Committees be instructed to ensure the timely establishment of the stalls.

Specifically for Khairpur city, flour stalls will be set up in the areas of Chhatti Chowk, Panj Hatti, and Luqman.

The District Food Controller and other relevant officers have been tasked with monitoring the wheat supply chain and the subsequent distribution of flour to consumers.

The key meeting was attended by various stakeholders, including Assistant Commissioners, officers from the Bureau of Supply, representatives from the Food Department, traders, and officials of the Atta Chakki Association, all of whom presented suggestions to tackle the current flour shortage.
