The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered the immediate and rigorous enforcement of a comprehensive protocol for honoring deceased former justices. The policy, introduced in January 2025, details procedures for funerals, interments, and the laying of wreaths, ensuring a respectful farewell befitting their service.
The regulations aim to provide compassionate support to grieving families and underscore the judiciary’s commitment to honoring its former members. A designated Focal Person in Islamabad, typically the Deputy Registrar (Miscellaneous), will oversee implementation. In other regions, designated protocol officers will carry out these duties.
The Focal Person will ensure the Court’s official presence at funeral and burial ceremonies and facilitate transportation arrangements. A wreath will be placed on the grave on behalf of the Chief Justice and fellow justices. The order, sanctioned by the Chief Justice, underscores the court’s dedication to maintaining traditions of respect and decorum in commemorating those who served the nation’s highest court.
