Survey for another International Airport in Sindh, Location selected in Khairpur

The federal government is set to approve the development of a new international airport in Sindh, where a final location has now been selected after extensive reviews. Officials today confirmed that the area between Tando Musti and Darb Mehr Shah, located at the confluence of Kot Diji and Khairpur, has been chosen as the optimal site, resulting in the rejection of previously considered areas including Sukkur, Aror, and Ghotki.

Senior officials from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and federal administration conducted numerous site assessments across various potential locations in Sindh. These reviews specifically scrutinized Sukkur I Airport, Aror, Ghotki, Khairpur, and other potential areas before narrowing down the options.

Aviation sector sources indicate that the location, provisionally designated as Khairpur International Airport, offers significant strategic advantages. The rationale behind this choice is rooted in Khairpur’s existing economic zone, which is expected to greatly benefit from enhanced air connectivity.

The establishment of this new aviation hub is expected to significantly improve access for residents and businesses in interior Sindh to international markets. Now that the location is finalized, federal approval for this major airport project is soon anticipated, marking a decisive shift from earlier considerations regarding existing airports in Sukkur, Aror, and Ghotki.
