Sustainable Innovation – Pioneering Edible Packaging from Food Waste to Tackle Global Crises

A groundbreaking solution to the twin challenges of food waste and plastic pollution was presented at an international conference, where an expert detailed how discarded food can be transformed into environmentally friendly, edible packaging.

Dr Kanza Aziz Awan, speaking as a distinguished guest, introduced this pioneering concept which could revolutionize food containment and consumption. Her address took place at the 1st International Conference on Sustainable Approaches to Address Global Food Security Challenges, hosted by the Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) today.

During her presentation, titled ‘Edible Packaging: Transforming Food Waste into Sustainable Solutions,’ Dr. Awan outlined novel methods for converting agricultural and food industry byproducts into practical, consumable wrappers and containers.

This innovative approach offers a sustainable alternative to single-use plastics while simultaneously helping to curb post-harvest losses, a significant factor impacting global food security.
