Administrator addressing “Karachi Green Hackathon” organized at NED University of Engineering and Technology

Karachi, September 28, 2020 (PPI-OT): Administrator Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shallwani on Monday said that neat and clean and green Karachi is our destination and everyone has to play his due role to achieve the target. Urban foresting has produced good results in reducing air pollution big cities of the world. We are taking measures to improve infrastructure of Karachi and everyone who supports this cause would be welcomed, the Administrator passed these remarks while addressing “Karachi Green Hackathon” organized at NED University of Engineering and Technology here.

The event was aimed at make 25 per cent area of Karachi green till 2025. Shallwani said that big and industrial cities are planting trees to cope with air pollution. “It is very important to take care already grown up trees besides planting new saplings. The plantation should be done where there is place so that more part of the city could become green, ” he added.

The Administrator said that we have to make our roads and footpaths beautiful and for the purpose the citizens should also be motivated. He said that desired results could be achieved by awaring the common people. “Nothing is impossible as the targets could be achieved through joint efforts. 25 per cent Karachi could become green till 2025 if we all take collective efforts, ” he said while tendering all out support from Karachi Metropolitan Corporation for providing people healthy environment.

(City): 10 officers sent back to parent departments from KMC

Karachi: At least ten officers of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) were repatriated to their parent organizations/cadres in compliance to orders of Honourable Supreme Court of Pakistan in 452SCMR 2013 and 456 SCMR 2015, respectively.

According to details, Najeeb Ahmed present posting BPS-20 KMC Chief Engineer KMC was repatriated back to actual scale/parent department, BS-17 Karachi Water and Sewerage Board.

Anis Qaimkhani, BPS-19 KMC Superintending Engineer was repatriated back to actual scale/parent department, actual scale/parent department, BPS-17, Karachi Water Board.

Tarique Aziz, BPS-18 KMC XEN actual was repatriated back to actual scale/parent department, scale/parent department, BPS-17, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board.

Shakeeb Ahmed, BPS-19 KMC Director (Environment) was repatriated back to actual scale/parent department, actual scale /parent department SCUG (Service Engineer Branch).

Shabi ul Hassan, BPS-20 KMC Chief Engineer was repatriated back to actual scale/parent department, actual scale/parent department, BPS-17, Katchi Abadies.

Aftaq Saeed, BPS-19 KMC Financial Advisor, actual scale/parent department BPS-14, District Municipal Corporation (Central).

Noman Arshad, BPS-19 KMC Senior Director Municipal Services was repatriated back to actual scale/parent department, actual scale/parent department, BPS-05, District Municipal Corporation (Central).

Mazhar Ali Shaikh, BPS-18 Director (Planning) Finance KMC was repatriated back to actual scale/parent department, actual scale/parent department District Municipal Corporation (West).

Musheer Ahmed, BPS-18 KMC Director (Machine Pool) Municipal Services, was repatriated back to actual scale/parent department, actual scale/parent department, BPS-11, Supervisor (Electrical /Parks).

Karachi, September 15, 2020 (PPI-OT): Administrator Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shallwani on Monday said that issue pertaining to shortage of funds in releasing salaries and pensions of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation employees would be resolved soon. Sindh government was requested to increase funds for KMC and hopefully the request will be accepted. Departmental heads would be replaced if they fail to achieve revenue targets. The meeting for review revenue targets would be held on weekly basis, The Administrator passed these remarks while addressing to officers of Finance Department here at KMC office.

Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saif ur Rehman, Finance Advisor Afaq Saeed, Senior Director Finance Riaz Khatri, Director Budget Mehmood Baig, Director Administration Finance Nasir Mehmood and other concerned officials were also present on the occasion. Shallwani was informed that the KMC has been facing shortage of funds to release salaries and pensions every month, pension and commutation issuance to retired employees and dues in the head of pensions’ dues. Release of lesser amount from the provincial government in monthly grant and shortfall in revenue targets are the main reason for shortage of funds, Shallwani was told.

The concerned officials informed the Administrator that KMC get Rs 587.705 million from Sindh government in the head of matching grant of OZT and Grant in Aid Salary and out which Rs 157.705 million are for OZT and Rs 430 million are Grant in Aid for salaries. He was told that Rs 693.235 million are required monthly for payment of KMC and DMCs employees’ salaries. The KMC itself is giving amount to meet the required value to release the salaries.

In the meeting it was apprised that pension contribution of KMC and DMCs retired employees is Rs 306.489 million and total Rs 330 million has to be paid to retired employees. The total shortfall being faced by the KMC in releasing salaries and pensions each month is Rs 260.198 million. Shallwani was informed that total Rs 3430.964 million are still to be paid to 5735 claimants who are either retired employees of KMC, DMCs and District Council or families of deceased employees. The retired employees and their families are seeking the amount since 2015-16 till date.

Besides, the KMC also face shortage of resources mainly because of funds shortage. ” Rs 451.857 million are to be paid to employees in the head of fire risk allowance, Rs 255.713 for supplementary salaries including leave encashment, and Rs 447.904 million that had to given to employees after 15 per cent increment in salaries,” the Administrator was informed. Speaking on the occasion, Shallwani said that it was essential to make finance department effective to put any organization on the path of development. He said that payment of salaries and pensions on time are amongst their priorities and issues in this regard would be resolved soon.

(City): Inquiry committee proposed to probe unethical activates at ASH

Karachi:Medical and Health Services, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has recommended for constitution of a three-members inquiry committee to probe a controversial interview of Director Abbasi Shaheed Hospital aired by a private news channel a couple of days back.

Sources at KMC told PPI that the committee comprising senior director (HRM), KMC (Chairman), Director Inspection and Enquires, KMC (Secretary/member) and Sabah-ul-Islam (member) have been recommended to probe the unethical activates.

Sources said an interview of Dr Salama Kausar Ali, Director, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), KMC, was telecasted by private news channel which went viral on social media in which she pointed out the matters about extremely illegal/ unethical activities in ASH.

Keeping in view the severity of matters pointed out by the Director, ASH, KMC, in her interview, it is recommended that an inquiry committee to probe the matter and ensure the strict action against defaulters to save the institution from destruction and defame.

Mayor Karachi urges government to listen the voice of traders

Karachi, November 13, 2019 (PPI-OT): Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said if people in Karachi did not chose to elect some other party which is in government also, this should not mean to usurp their basic rights. Despite giving Rs350billion revenue to the country, Karachi remained in this worst condition. This is not democracy as democracy or economy could get strength only if local governments are made strong. Karachi was presently facing a difficult time and in fact in the intensive care unit, however no one paying attention on it whether it is provincial government or federal government. City traders wants sit in by mayor for resolving the city problems and they were ready to sit with me.

He expressed these views in a reception in his honor held in the office of the Karachi Electronics Dealers Association’s head office in Saddar on Tuesday. The president of KEDA Muhammad Rizwan Irfan also spoke on this occasion. Mayor Karachi said no one seems to be interested in Karachi issues, the government must focus on Karachi before the traders decide for sit in as already representatives of 300 Karachi markets were ready to sit in for their demands. He said that the Sindh Government not even providing full salary of its employees despite keeping all revenue departments to itself.

If the staff of Sindh government got increase in their pay, this raise should also be included in the salary of KMC and DMC staff. He said that the federal and provincial government held a month-long cleanliness drive which gave only temporary benefit because lifting and disposal of garbage was a routine work and not a campaign. This work could only be done by those organizations which have this basic responsibility and the experience and skills for this.

Mayor Karachi demanded that in order to solve the problems of Karachi all civic bodies should be brought under the control of one authority. He said that the SLGA 2013 devastated whole city. The local governments were made paralyzed and destroyed before holding the local government elections. The Mayor said that Karachi must be treated especially as this city provides major portion of total revenue collected by the government.

Mayor Karachi inspect facilities for visitors in Karachi Zoo

Karachi, November 11, 2019 (PPI-OT): Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said the name of Karachi Zoo being changed into the Zoological and Botanical Garden. The zoo provides recreation facility to 99 percent city population. Besides recreation, education and information about wild life was also provided here for kids and adults. Citizens of Karachi should visit the zoo with their family. He said this while talking to media representatives on a visit of Karachi Zoo on Friday. Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Syed Saif-ur-Rehman, chairman recreation committee of city council Hanif Surti and other KMC officers were also present on this occasion.

Mayor Karachi said that the first phase of development works in Karachi Zoo would complete in December and the second phase would involve the purchase of new big captives for zoo besides carrying out more development. He said that the zoo has now become much better for visitors. The boundary wall has been completed and more facilities provided for students of wild life and botany. He also appealed to the people to refrain from pasting advertisements on the zoo boundary wall and cooperate with KMC in maintaining the beauty of the Karachi Zoo.

Mayor Karachi also inspected the art pieces that had been recently displayed in the zoo in connection with the international art exhibition in Karachi. He said that such exhibitions would continue in future too. Replying to a query he said that the cleanliness campaign was a temporary solution of the problem and the permanent solution lies in the revert to the solid waste removal and dispose off system used in the city ten years ago.

All garbage generated in the city must be dispatched to the landfill sites on daily basis so that the city could be kept clean and germs free and for this the district municipal administration should be given resources which were doing this previously. He said that the sewerage line system laid in the city for 10 Lac people was now used by about 30 million citizens of Karachi. In order to bring improvement we need to overhaul the whole sewage infrastructure of Karachi.

Mayor Karachi inspect road carpeting in Soldier Bazar

Karachi, November 11, 2019 (PPI-OT): Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said the city being devastated, infrastructure collapsed completely, such a situation would not have been there had this city was getting its right and resources. Those who were occupying the civic bodies and resources are responsible for this. The chief executive of the province and country should take serious notice of this condition as this loss was not only of Karachi but of the province and country as well. He expressed these views while talking to media representatives during the inspection of road carpeting work in Parsi Colony of Soldier Bazar on Thursday.

Chairman of DMC east Moid Anwer, former federal minister Haji Muhammad Hanif Tayyeb, chairman works committee Hasan Naqvi and other elected representatives were also present on this occasion. Mayor Karachi said that after Muharram, rehabilitation and carpeting work on routes of Rabi-ul-Awwal processions was being carried out. He said this is not the permanent solution however, as these corridors should be in better condition.

Mayor Karachi said that Karachi did not getting the funds which should be released to it and that resulted in in completion of uplift schemes in the city. He said the water supply, sewerage and transport system was in very bad condition which must be focused. Former federal minister Haji Hanif Tayyeb said that citizens of Karachi knew the reason why the city was not getting its right and who is responsible for this.

He said that he has been elected councillor once and MNA three times but he did not ever see the situation of this city like this. We will pass resolution in the gatherings and processions of Rabi-ul-Awwal that how could we complain the municipal authorities if they did not have the resources and powers. Haji Hanif said demanded that those who were supposed to run the city affairs should get the resources also.
