Islamabad, February 13, 2023 (PPI-OT):Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf said that the Constitution of Pakistan is the real guarantor of our freedom. He said that Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto sacrificed their lives for democracy, the supremacy of the Constitution and rule of law in the country. He said that the year 2023 marks the Golden Jubilee year of the Constitution. He said that the National Assembly Secretariat would organize various programs to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Constitution in a grand manner.
In this regard, events would be organized in schools, colleges and universities across the country. He expressed these views while addressing the participants of the Ceremony to commemorate the 50 years of unsung heroes of democracy in Pakistan held in the front lawn of the Parliament House. Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party/Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, former Prime Minister/Senator Yusuf Raza Gilani, former Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani, Former Senator Farhatullah Babar, members of the National Assembly and Senate and members of the Provincial Assembly, civil society and media representatives were present on the occasion.
The Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf said that the purpose of celebrating the Golden Jubilee is to make our youth aware of the sacrifices made for democracy and the Constitution. He further said that honourable Speakers and presiding officers would also be invited to the Golden Jubilee celebrations in the Parliament House.
Speaker said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave a unified constitution to this country and former President Asif Ali Zardari restored Pakistan to its original state and returned powers to Parliament. He said that the country is proud of the outstanding work done by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as Foreign Minister.
Party Chairman PPP/Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari while addressing the opening ceremony of the Golden Jubilee of the Constitution of Pakistan said that the Pakistan People’s Party has decided to celebrate the year 2023 as the year of the Golden Jubilee. He said that the Constitution of Pakistan 1973 allowed every citizen to nominate their representative and the powerful class was forced to seek votes from the common man. He said that the 1973 constitution gave representation to all the classes living in the country and gave rights to all the provinces.
He said that we can overcome our problems by ensuring the implementation of the constitution. He said that the Pakistan People’s Party has decided to form a committee in which all political parties will be invited. The committee will look into the problems being faced by the country and will find solutions. He congratulated the Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf and Senator Mian Raza Rabbani for the successful organization of this event and appreciated their efforts in this regard.
Former Prime Minister and Senator Syed Yusuf Raza Ali Gilani and former Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani also paid rich tribute to the unsung heroes who sacrificed their lives for the supremacy of the Constitution of Pakistan. They said that the unified constitution of 1973 has given protection to the federation. They said that former Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave a unified constitution to the country, which credit goes to former President Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari for restoring it to its original form. They said that with the supremacy of the constitution and the rule of law, the problems faced by the country can be solved and it can be put on the path of development.
