Train fares cut by 30pc on eve of Eid

KARACHI:Pakistan Railways on Wednesday announced a 30 percent discount in train fares on the occasion of Eid ul Azha.

According to the railway administration, the reduction in train fares will be applicable to all passenger trains during the three days of Eid ul Azha. The notification has been issued on the direction of Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique.

On the other hand, three special trains will be operated on multiple routes before Eid ul Azha, while the first special train would depart at 10 am on July 8. It would travel from Quetta to Peshawar via Multan, Sahiwal and Lahore.

It may be noted that in June, Pakistan Railways has increased train fares by 15 percent, citing a recent hike in fuel prices. An official notification stated that, effective from Friday, June 17, train fares will increase by 10 percent for passengers and 15 percent for cargo. It is unknown if this will be the final fare hike, as fuel prices are set to rise further.
