Trust and Tolerance Valued Above Love for Maintaining Relationships in Pakistan, New Poll Finds

A national survey today revealed a striking insight into Pakistani societal values, indicating that emotional stability and reliability are considered more crucial for relationship longevity than expressions of affection or time investment.

The poll, conducted by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, found that a combined majority of citizens prioritize trust and tolerance over other factors for sustaining personal connections.

According to the findings, one-third of Pakistanis (34%) identified “trust” as the single most important element for maintaining relationships, making it the top choice among respondents.

“Tolerance” was the second most selected factor, with 30% of participants citing it as the most vital component. In contrast, “love” was chosen by 24% of those surveyed, while “giving time” was considered the most essential factor by only 10%.

The research suggests a high premium is placed on patience and dependability in relationships, implying that for many, consistent reliability matters more than overt displays of affection.

The study was carried out by the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International between November 17, 2025, and December 2, 2025. The research involved telephonic surveys with a sample of 961 individuals from both urban and rural areas across all four of the country”s provinces.

The Gilani Research Foundation, which released the results, stated that the error margin for the survey is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 percent at a 95% confidence level.
