Two cops, one anti-polio worker killed in North Waziristan

PESHAWAR:Unidentified armed men shot dead two policemen and one anti-polio worker besides injuring a pedestrian in an attack in Datta Khel area of North Waziristan on Tuesday.

Police said that the gunmen riding motorcycles appeared in village Danda Gaoun of Datta Khel taluka in North Waziristan and opened fire on the anti-polio vaccination team accompanied by police. Those killed were identified as constable Raza Ullah, policeman Din Shaheed, and polio worker Rasheed Ullah.

Heavy contingents of police rushed to the scene and started rescue operation. The bodies and injured were shifted to Miranshah Hospital for medico-legal formalities and treatment.

People’s doctor forum condemned the attack on the polio team. The people’s doctor forum said in a statement that this attack on the polio team is a conspiracy against the termination of the disease.

Federal Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel has taken the notice of the incident and directed the law enforcing agencies to arrest the suspects behind the incident.

It may be noted here that an anti-polio campaign was underway in North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A nationwide anti-polio campaign started across Pakistan from Monday (June 27). In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, about 2.6 million children will be administered anti-polio drops during a five day campaign. Over 11000 teams will take part in the campaign.
