Two shopkeepers arrested for violating lockdown order

LARKANA: A dispute between the assistant commissioner, Larkana, Ahmed Ali Soomro and Resham Gali shopkeepers took place here on Sunday who had gone there to implement Sindh Government’s lockdown notification and implementation of SOPs. Market police arrested three shopkeepers and locked them up at the police station and a case was registered against two of them. They include Bilawal Shaikh his bother Ghulam Muhammad Shaikh and the third was allowed to go home.

Soomro while talking to media on the occasion said that shopkeepers from Larkana and other parts of the province made videos viral on social media that police are allowing opening of shops of their choice after getting Rs 200 to 500 and those are forced to shut who do not pay the corruption amount. Notice of such videos were taken by the IGP who directed police not to visit bazzars without district administration for closing the shops.

He said he was informed by the police that shops are open in Resham Gali and Shahi Bazaar hence he visited these areas along with cops. He said shops were run by the shopkeepers while closing their shutters but customers were inside their shops. He said I found four women inside a shop along with two shopkeepers when its locks were broken which were refused by the shopkeeper.

He said when I asked them the reason behind locking down women inside their shops the shopkeeper started using foul language hence they were arrested by the police. He said shopkeepers then gathered and started shouting slogans against us. He said yesterday I had requested all the shopkeepers to implement lockdown strictly but they openly violated hence a case has been registered against two shopkeepers and they will be taken to task.
