UNICEF delegation calls on Chief Secretary Sindh

KARACHI:A three-member UNICEF delegation called on Chief Secretary Sindh Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah at his office on Wednesday in Sindh Secretariat.

During the meeting, the Chief Secretary Sindh was briefed about the Child Labor Survey by UNICEF delegation. Speaking during the Meeting, Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah said that a child labor survey would be conducted in the province in collaboration with UNICEF and Sindh government and it would be completed in the current financial year.

During the meeting, the UNICEF delegation said that the survey will be carried out in 4 months for which the necessary training will be given to the officers of the Labor Department. During the meeting, the Chief Secretary Sindh said that the Sindh government would provide Rs 96 million for the survey and an agreement would be signed between the Labor Department and UNICEF for the survey.

In the meeting, Chief Secretary Sindh Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah said that Sindh government had enacted Sindh Prohibition of Employment of Children Act in 2017 to eradicate child labor. Sindh has set up the Sindh Child Protection Authority to end all forms of violence against children. “Work is being done to strengthen the authority and capacity building of the officers. In the meeting, the UNICEF delegation appreciated the performance of the government with regard to child protection in Sindh.

Meanwhile, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Sindh Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah at Sindh Secretariat. The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh for Special Rehabilitation Department Sadiq Ali Memon, Secretary Social Welfare, Secretary Planning and other officers. The meeting was briefed on the ADP Annual Development Program for Special Persons.

It was informed in the meeting that rehabilitation department is working on 15 schemes of 800 million people. These schemes will be completed this year. Rehabilitation Centers are being set up for special persons at Tando Muhammad Khan, Sakrand, Karachi, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu Sukkur and other cities. In the meeting, Chief Secretary Sindh directed the finance department to release funds for the projects.
