UNISAME Calls on SMEDA to Bridge Tech Gap with China

The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has called upon the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) to facilitate joint ventures and technological collaboration with China, aiming to bridge the existing technological gap.

Zulfikar Thaver, President of UNISAME, emphasized in a statement here on Monday that this partnership could expedite growth through mutual benefits in sectors like textiles, foodstuffs, engineering, electronics, and electric vehicles.

The upper medium sector shows a particular interest in collaborating with Chinese entrepreneurs to manufacture drones tailored for agricultural purposes. These innovations are intended to enhance efficiency in sowing, harvesting, fumigation, irrigation, and plant protection.

SMEs are also eager to explore joint ventures in manufacturing a wide array of products, including stationery, solar panels, batteries, cameras, cosmetics, and general merchandise. UNISAME has compiled a detailed list of potential items for collaboration.

UNISAME’s Council members are pressing SMEDA to establish a help desk swiftly and to prepare feasibility studies for various industries. They also encourage engagement with the Chinese Trade Consular or commercial attaché to cultivate interest in these collaborative opportunities.

The UNISAME Council has pledged its support to promote these initiatives and facilitate meetings between Pakistani and Chinese entrepreneurs, with backing from local trade associations and chambers.
