Universal Service Fund organizes Open Forum for “USF Fiber to the Union Council Program”

Islamabad, July 10, 2019 (PPI-OT): USF organized an Open Forum for seeking comments and suggestion on the upcoming “USF Fiber to the Union Council Program”. The event was conducted to collect feedback from the stakeholder to ensure that the program achieves the end goal of connecting all of Pakistan for providing maximum socio-economic uplift.

The forum started with opening remarks by CEO-USF, Rizwan Mir who gave a roundup of USF programmes to the audience. It was followed by presentation by CTO-USF, Asif Kamal on the “Expansion of OFC to Union Councils”. The presentation comprised an Introduction of the existing OFC programme and the current status of utilization of USF OFC networks. The future expansion covered the need to expand and Fiberization trends.

He further shed light on the proposed programme, recommendations and the way forward. A Q and A session was conducted after the presentation which covered core topics like regulatory duty and taxes on OFC, identification of termination points and Wifi Zones in Union Councils, project implementation timelines etc.
