Employees at the Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Umerkot Campus, are confronting severe financial distress after going without their remuneration for three consecutive months, a crisis that prompted a “Black Day” demonstration by a fellow teachers’ association in Karachi on Tuesday.
The Sindh Madressatul Islam University Teachers Association (SMUTA) organized the solidarity action at the SMIU campus to draw attention to the plight of the SAU personnel. The protest was a direct response to a call for support from the General Secretary of the Sindh Agriculture University Teachers Association (SAUTA).
Participants from SMUTA donned black armbands and displayed placards condemning the prolonged non-payment of wages. The demonstrators demanded the immediate release of all outstanding dues to alleviate the financial hardship being endured by the university staff.
Speaking at the event, representatives for the association voiced profound concern over the difficulties facing the faculty and staff at the Umerkot campus. They described the withholding of earned wages as a grave injustice that critically damages the morale and dignity of the academic community.
SMUTA President, Assistant Professor Asif Hussain Samo, and General Secretary, Assistant Professor Wafa Mansoor Buriro, along with other office bearers, pledged their unwavering backing for SAUTA’s peaceful protest. They strongly urged the relevant authorities to take swift action to resolve the payment issue, affirming that the teaching community across Sindh stands united in advocating for the welfare and rights of all university employees.
