University News – SMIU Council Approves New Courses, Focuses On Research

The 15th assembly of the Sindh Madressatul Islam University’s (SMIU) Academic Council convened at the university’s Senate Hall today, under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai.

The council ratified the proceedings of the Boards of the Faculties of Education, Sciences, Information Technology and Management, Business Administration, and Commerce. Key discussions centered on academic advancements, encompassing fresh programs aligned with Higher Education Commission guidelines and mandatory internships for pupils after their 5th semester. The gathering also assessed the institution”s academic standing, stressing the significance of prioritizing investigative studies alongside high-quality instruction.

The council endorsed the establishment of an Industry Advisory Board, proposed by the Board of Faculty of Information Technology, along with a policy structure for an Industry Liaison Committee. Furthermore, the council appointed Dr. Stephen John, Chair of the Education Department, and Dr. Abdul Hafeez Khan, Chair of the Software Engineering Department, to the University’s Discipline Committee. Dr. Jamshed Adil Halepoto, Dean of the Faculty of Management, Business Administration, and Commerce, and Dr. Syed Asif Ali, Professor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Sciences, were appointed to the Affiliation Committee, succeeding the previous members.

Addressing the council, Vice Chancellor Sahrai underscored the escalating competitiveness of the global landscape and the consequent emergence of new obstacles in higher education. He urged universities to adapt their strategies and procedures to effectively address these evolving demands. Recognizing the distinct characteristics of today”s digitally native learners, he advocated for tailoring instructional methodologies and curricula to contemporary requirements.

Dr. Sahrai lauded the faculty”s contribution to delivering superior education, highlighting SMIU”s ascent as a leading national university. He noted the institution”s successful 5th Convocation in July, where 367 learners received degrees, including SMIU”s inaugural PhD. He affirmed SMIU”s dedication to furnishing essential resources and enriching educational prospects for its learners. This commitment is exemplified by the establishment of the Hashmat Lodi Youth Development Centre, the Students Development Fund, and an AI laboratory. SMIU also fosters career prospects for its pupils through collaborations with various sectors.
