Unveiling of Saud Sultan’s book on the Kashmir issue at Sheffield City Council

A new book aimed at reshaping global understanding of the Kashmir conflict was launched at an event in Sheffield City Council. Young Kashmiri author, Chaudhry Saud Sultan, gave a detailed presentation on his work, “The Forgotten Story of Jammu and Kashmir”.

Sultan described his two-year research as a work of international standard, aimed at raising global awareness about the Kashmir issue. He emphasized the book’s objective to counter the distorted and overlooked narrative prevalent in international discourse. Sultan asserts that his publication provides an accurate and authentic account of the conflict, serving as a valuable resource for the international community.

The 250-page book comprises eleven chapters, including 50 pages dedicated to references supporting the arguments and claims presented. Sultan explained how, using historical evidence and reasoned arguments, he challenges India’s stance at the United Nations in 1947. He also shed light on the comparative analysis of freedoms in Azad Kashmir and occupied Kashmir, based on refugee interviews and other collected information. He contends this comparison demonstrates greater freedoms in Azad Kashmir.

Prominent figures attending the event included Honorary Presidential Advisor Chaudhry Rasib, House of Lords member Lord Shaffaq Mohammad, Sheffield’s Lord Mayor Safiya Saeed, Council Leader Tom Hunt, Deputy Mayor Rudram Haroon Rashid, Sheffield’s Deputy Lieutenant Saghra Begum, and several council members including Talib Hussain, Abdul Qayyum, Muhammad Maroof, and Nighat Basharat. Other attendees included Majid Khan, Usman, Tariq Hussain, Maroof Hussain, and Chaudhry Arif.
