Update: At least 57 dead in plane crash

KARACHI: A passenger plane with nearly 100 people on board crashed in a residential area of Karachi city, killing at least 56 people and wounding many others.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane was close to landing at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport when unfortunate incident occurred. Spokeswoman of Sindh Health Department Meeran Yousuf said at least 56 people have confirmed dead and several others are wounded.

Head of Accident and Emergency Department Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Dr Seemin Jamali, confirmed that 37 dead bodies were brought in hospital so far out of which three were identified. Around six injured were also under treatment in her hospital.

Similarly, Medical Superintendent, Civil Hospital Karachi, Dr Khadim Hussain Qureshi while talking to PPI, said 20 dead bodies and three injured shifted in his hospital so far. Two passengers have survived in the plane crash so far. Five bodies were identified so far and DNA sampling of other dead bodies was under way.
