US and Iran Declare Immediate Ceasefire, Peace Negotiations to be Held in Islamabad

The United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, along with their respective allies, have consented to an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Wednesday.

In a statement released via his social media account on X, the prime minister confirmed the cessation of hostilities would apply “everywhere, including Lebanon and elsewhere.” Mr Sharif declared that he warmly welcomes the “sagacious gesture” and has invited delegations from both nations to convene in the Pakistani capital on Friday, 10th April. The purpose of the meeting is to “further negotiate for a conclusive agreement to settle all disputes.”

The premier extended his “deepest gratitude” to the leadership of both countries, noting that the two parties had “displayed remarkable wisdom and understanding.”

He further stated that both sides have “remained constructively engaged in furthering the cause of peace and stability.”

Expressing optimism for the upcoming summit, Mr Sharif concluded, “We earnestly hope, that the “Islamabad Talks” succeed in achieving sustainable peace and wish to share more good news in coming days.”
