Uzbekistan, Afghanistan Strengthen Security, Trade Cooperation

Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have reinforced their collaboration on security, commerce, and transit, highlighted by a high-level meeting between security chiefs in Kabul. Bahodir Kurbanov, director of Uzbekistan’s State Security Service (SSS), conferred with Abdul Haq Wasiq, Afghanistan’s Intelligence Chief, to address vital concerns such as border integrity, counterterrorism initiatives, narcotics control, and regional steadiness, as reported by Trend.

The two nations underscored their dedication to fostering peace and stability within the region and emphasized Afghanistan”s incorporation into the global community. Discussions also encompassed active bilateral talks in crucial areas such as power, commerce, and transit.

Beyond his meeting with Wasiq, Kurbanov engaged separately with Afghanistan’s Defense Minister, Yakub, and Interior Minister, Hakkani.

Earlier this month, the foreign ministers of Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan inked a trilateral framework agreement for a feasibility assessment of the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan Trans-Afghan Railway. This substantial infrastructure undertaking seeks to enhance regional commerce, bolster Afghanistan”s economic resurgence, and unlock fresh pathways to international markets via southern ports.
