Karachi, November 12, 2020 (PPI-OT): A virtual meeting was held on November 11th, 2020 between Trade Development Authority of Pakistan and The Embassy of Pakistan in Argentina in coordination with Drugs, Foods and Medical Devices-ANMAT-Argentina and Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan-DRAP, on establishment of framework for collaboration in the field of registration of Pharmaceutical products between DRAP, Pakistan and ANMAT, Argentina.
The session commenced with the opening remarks of Trade and Investment Counsellor in Argentina; Mr. Jameel Baloch. The main speakers of the webinar were the Ambassador of Pakistan to Argentina; Dr. Muhammad Khalid Ejaz, Director General TDAP, Dr. Mohammad Hamid Ali, Dr. Obaid from ANMAT, Lic. Valeria Garay-Deputy Administrator of ANMAT, Dra. Marcelo Rizzo- National Director of National Institute of Medical Products, Dra. Agustina Bisio-Director Evaluation and Registration of Medicines, Mg. Sebastián Duarte-Director Institutional Relations, Dr. Shafi Malik, Director General, Ministry of Health and National Regulations, Mr. Asim. Rauf, CEO DRAP, Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan.
The ANMAT is the decentralized organization of the Ministry of Health that deals with pharmaceutical regulations in Argentina. Apart from the drug products, ANMAT is responsible for the regulation of food, medical devices, reactants for diagnosis, cosmetics, dietary supplements and cleaning and other household products.
The main purpose of organizing this meeting was to create awareness and discuss the opportunities of bilateral trade between Argentina and Pakistan in the Pharmaceutical sector by explaining and sharing guidelines. The CEO DRAP highlighted three main areas: exploring opportunities from both sides in bilateral trade, strengthening the technical staff and to work on pharma-covigilance.
Both agencies (DRAP and ANMAT) agreed to start with the initial steps highlighted by CEO-DRAP. The ANMAT also brought to the fore a current case of Joint venture between Bogo (Argentina) and Ferozsons (Pakistan). The Ministry of Health from Argentina and Pakistan assured the Agencies of their full cooperation for enhancing the bilateral trade in the field of Pharmaceuticals and agreed that in order to move forward, both nations will explore opportunities for joint ventures. All the stakeholders thanked TDAP, Ministry of Commerce and Pakistan Embassy at Argentina for organizing such an informative webinar.
