Recently, a delegation from Shandong Province of China visited Karachi Port Trust (KPT) today to assess potential opportunities for maritime cooperation. This visit indicates a growing interest in strengthening China-Pakistan cooperation in the maritime sector.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by KPT Chairman Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed and Rear Admiral Kashif Munir. During the visit, the Chinese guests were given a detailed briefing on the ongoing operations and development projects at Karachi Port, highlighting its strategic importance in regional trade and logistics.

A key focus of the visit was the Manora Workshop Expansion Project. This project includes the construction of a graving dock, a slipway, a floating dock, and enhanced training facilities. Estimated to cost less than $400 million, the project aims to provide significant benefits to maritime institutions and strengthen Pakistan’s maritime industry and ship repair capabilities.

The KPT Chairman emphasized the strategic significance of this project, which is expected to revitalize the country’s maritime sector and contribute to economic growth. This cooperation could lead to further investment and technical exchanges in the maritime sector between China and Pakistan, thereby strengthening relations further.
