Water supplies to Quetta from 400 schemes remain cut off

Water supplies to Quetta from 400 water supply schemes remained cut off on Thursday as employees of the Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) extended a strike for a sixth day, demanding a 25% ad hoc allowance and additional benefits.

The strike, led by the WASA Employees Union, has halted operations at over 400 tubewells, disrupting clean water supplies to residents who are now relying on tanker services to meet their needs.

The strike action is in defiance of a Balochistan High Court ruling that bars government employees from striking. Local authorities have not yet commented on steps to resolve the dispute.
