ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister Imran Khan has said the economy of Pakistan is witnessing strong growth and creating jobs.

In a tweet on Saturday, he pointed out that profits of listed businesses grew by fifty nine percent for the first nine months of last year. He hoped businesses and employers will share these gains with their workforce.

(FM to undertake four-day visit to Romania, Spain tomorrow)

ISLAMABAD:Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi will undertake a four-day official visit to Romania and Spain from tomorrow (Sunday).

During the first leg of the visit, Foreign Minister Qureshi will visit Bucharest and hold meetings with his Romanian counterpart and other dignitaries. Besides focusing on measures to further deepen bilateral cooperation, the two sides will hold wide-ranging consultations on regional and international issues.

The Foreign Minister will subsequently visit Spain. Besides meeting with his Spanish counterpart, the Foreign Minister Qureshi will hold meetings with other Ministers and Members of the Spanish Parliament.

In a statement, the Foreign Office spokesperson said Romania and Spain are important partners of Pakistan, both bilaterally and in the context of the European Union. The Foreign Minister’s visit will give further impetus to the growing cooperation with these two friendly countries.

(Info Minister asks people to postpone their upland tour plan)

ISLAMABAD:Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain has asked the people to postpone their upland tour plan for a few days.

In a tweet on Saturday, he said hundreds of thousands of vehicles are heading towards Murree and other high places and it has become impossible for local administration to provide facilities to such a large number of people.

(NDMA dispatches relief supplies to ran affected areas of Balochistan)

ISLAMABAD:On the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has dispatched relief supplies to the areas affected by recent rains in Balochistan.

According to NDMA, relief supplies including drainage pumps, tents, blankets and ration bags have been sent through C-130 aircraft of Pakistan Air Force. The NDMA is also in touch with provincial authorities and Provincial Disaster Management Authority of Balochistan.

The troops of Pakistan Army and FC are already engaged in relief activities in the affected areas. Meanwhile, Chairman NDMA, Lt General Akhtar Nawaz also held telephonic conversation with the Governor and Chief Minister of Balochistan on the situation arising out of recent rains and snowfall and requirements of the affected population.

(Around 16 dead after being stranded in Murree snowfall: Rashid)

ISLAMABAD:Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Saturday said around 16 to 19 people died after their cars were stranded because of snowfall and traffic congestion in Murree hill station.

In a video message, he said tourists flocked to the hill station in such large numbers for the first time in last 15 to 20 years which created a big crisis. He said the administrations of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, along with police, had been working to rescue the stranded people. He said five platoons of the Pakistan Army as well as Rangers and Frontier Corps have been called on an emergency basis.

The interior minister said some tourists had been rescued, whereas others had been turned back. He said around 1,000 cars are stuck on the hill station. He said the administration had closed all routes to Murree and only those vehicles were being allowed that were taking food and blankets for the affected.

He said the dwellers of Murree provided food and blankets to the stranded people. He said now it was decided to stop people travelling on foot as well, as it was is no time for pedestrians tourists too to visit the hill station. Snowfall, which began on Tuesday night, continued with regular intervals, attracting thousands of tourists. It has been reported that over 155,000 vehicles entered the hill station.

In a statement, Chief Traffic Officer Taimoor Khan said entry of vehicles into Murree had been banned from Friday night onwards and cars were being diverted from toll plazas and other entrances. He said since snowfall started on Monday morning, more than 155,000 vehicles had entered Murree and 135,000 had so far left.

Roads leading to Murree closed due to heavy snowfall

MUREE:Administration of Rawalpindi and Islamabad closed the roads going to Murree and Galiyat due to large number of vehicles entering the hill station owing to heaving snowfall.

Thousands of tourists entered the hill station to witness the snowfall causing heavy traffic jams on Murree-Islamabad Motorway. The authorities decided to close all kind of traffic going towards the hill station to avoid a further brutal traffic jam.

Meanwhile, the Motorway police and local administration is busy in helping the tourists who had been stuck in their cars in the heavy traffic jam. The process of sending the cars back from Murree has also been started.

Furthermore, the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Hamza Shafqat has said that all the routes from Islamabad to Murree have been closed. The decision was taken keeping in view the rush of tourists and traffic jams in Murree. The commissioner has also requested the citizens to postpone their plan to the hill station.
