Anti-motorcycle lifting unit likely in Karachi

KARACHI:Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Dr Syed Kaleem Imam on Monday presided over a meeting to review the overall law and order situation in the city.

During the meeting, the IGP called for chalking out a better security plan for snap checking at all sensitive places, markets, religious places, main streets and public places during the second decade of Ramazan.

He also emphasized upon officers that special attention should be given on tackling motorcycle lifting crimes. He instructed Additional IG Karachi to furnish recommendations and suggestions report regarding the establishment of a separate anti-motorcycle lifting unit in ACLC.

The Sindh police chief also ordered increase in actions against those involved in registration of fake First Information Reports (FIRs) of crimes at different police stations across the province under sections 182 and 211 of Pakistan Penal Code.

Additional IG Karachi told the meeting that due to better police measures and strategies against criminals, there was a visible declined in crimes ratio as compared to the last year. He said the police department was improving its ability to combat crimes with the help of main power and information technology.
