KARACHI:Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah on Friday took a notice of the death of a prisoner in Central jail Karachi.

Taking notice of the incident, CM instructed home secretary Sindh to probe the case and send him a detailed report. CM regretted over the incident and said such incidents would not be tolerated.

Earlier, an under-trial prisoner, Rana Zahid, aged 35, had died in Central Jail Karachi. The jail officials had told the family that he died of cardiac arrest; however, the family found several torture marks on his body.

The body was later shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors confirmed that he was tortured to death. The family members staged a protest on Thursday over the incident.

According to the victim’s family, Zahid was arrested by the police over protest during anti-encroachment drive in Ahsanabad. Later, he was sent on jail custody by a court. The family claimed that Zahid was tortured to death.
