Fate of 92 ASIs recruited on merit hangs in balance in Sindh since 2004

LARKANA:The fate of 92 ASIs is still hanging in the balance since 2004 as they were recruited on merit after floating an advertisement in the national newspapers through Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) in Sindh Police in BPS-9.

At the very outset, 113 ASIs were appointed out of which 21 have left the job due to job insecurity and others are facing serious mismanagement and bad governance. Since then they have been neglected because they were not blue eyed boys of the present rulers. The Sindh Government instead of promoting them to the next higher rank is constantly keeping them on false and fabricated promises.

According to details, these ASIs were appointed in October-November 2004 as ASI (Computer) but the appointment order mentioned that they were recruited as ASI/Computer Operator (BPS-9) which shows the malafide intention of the recruiting department whereas they were trained as regular ASIs at Police Training Colleges of Shahdadpur and Saeedabad, Karachi, as per police rules. They were kept at the disposal of their respective ranges and units where they were posted at different police stations as well as in offices as ASIs after completion of all required courses.

Despite passage of 14 long years their services have not yet been confirmed even after the fact that they were appointed on merit on regular posts as their names have not yet been put on List-E due to which they have been deprived of promotions and other perks and privileges.

Reliable sources told DT that Sindh Police bosses now intend to establish an IT Cadre where these police officers will be absorbed forcibly in the same scale depriving them even rank and uniform which is highly unjust whereas these incumbents allege that the post of ASI is purely uniformed.

The affected ASIs have further alleged that those ASIs appointed against Shaheed Quota in 2004 have been promoted to next higher rank which amount to discrimination.

They added that even ASIs appointed in 2007 have also been promoted whereas they are being neglected due to lethargic policies of Sindh Police higher authorities. They said that many of ASIs have left the job for better future and those who are still working, who are 92 in number, are facing injustices at the hands of their big bosses.

They have urged the Director IT Sindh Police, Tabasum Abbasi, whose services have recently been regularized and Inspector General of Sindh Police Kaleem Imam to look into the issue and provide relief according to prevailing Sindh Police Rules or else they will seek justice through court of law.
