Glowing tribute paid to Parveen Rahman at SSUET

KARACHI:Architecture Department of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology organized Lok Mukalama in the memory of the renowned architect Parveen Rahman who was assassinated on March 13, 2013. The noted speakers highlighted her valuable services in detail and appreciated the work done by her as Director of Orangi Pilot Research and Training Institute.

Speaking on the occasion, Jawaid Anwar, Chancellor Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, said Parveen Rahman was a daring lady who focused on to providing all necessary resources to a common man to live a normal and comfortable life. She devoted her life to the development of the impoverished neighborhoods across the country. Her great achievement was to get involved and empower communities in development work and to lessen their sense of deprivation.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afzal Haque said participation of common people is essential for the success of developmental work. Interaction with people pave a way for accommodating them in a comfortable and healthy life. It is time to carry forward her thought and mission and he revealed that the proposal of awarding Parveen Rahman Gold Medal to the student securing first position is under consideration.

Engineer Aqeela Ismail said that the most important work of her was to regularize the goths and after her assassination, no single goth has been regularized. She devoted her life to make common man’s life better. First, you need to gather all required data and information, then try to bring improvement with your skill and experience. Parveen focused on developing relationship with people.

Renowned economist Anwar Rashid asked to give common people access to technology. Parveen did not come to this field by accident. She already had her targets set. Noted Town Planner Arif Hassan said old local bodies system is dying and new system needs to take place, which is based on community cohesion.
