IHS conducts 83,267 diagnostic tests

LARKANA: The Project Director, Integrated Health Services (IHS), Kashif Ali Raza, has claimed that as many as 83,267 different diagnostic tests are being performed at 102 Rural Health Centers (RHUs) in 20 districts of Sindh.

This he revealed while addressing a press conference at local press club here on Wednesday.

He said in all 111 RHUs and THQs were handed over and in Larkana Division they started work in 2016. He said laboratories, stores and wards that had been closed in RHUs are now being opened.

He said they don’t have the condition of Central Purchasing System which is exclusively for public sector hospitals and “we procure drugs and medicines at our own”.

He said 1200 employees are working in Sindh with IHS which include doctors, dispensers and other staff.

He said our annual budget is Rs1.6 billion out of which we are running 111 RHUs and THQs.

He further disclosed that in February as many as 11,070 patients were admitted and OPD remained 666,069, which recorded 25% increase as compared to previous month, he further claimed.

He said 24002 deliveries were made with 83,267 diagnostic services, 5648 major and minor operation were also carried out in February.

He said that preventive vaccination of 7045 people has also been done. He said no improvement has been made in Mother and Child Healthcare system since last 20 years but we have now recruited lady health visitors and dispensers to work in three shifts to take care of pregnant women. He said standby generators and solar system have been provided in Larkana, Nawabshah and NaushehroFeroze THQs to deal with emergencies.

He admitted that problems do exist in some areas where no proper medical facilities have so far been provided for which we are still working, he added. He said the condition of RHUs is very bad adding maintenance and repair work is to be carried out by Sindh Government but it is not being done for unknown reasons. He said at the end of the contract employees working with IHS will not be entitled to any benefits and he/she shall not be able to demand the same even from the government.

He said ghost employees’ reports are sent to the concerned authorities for action. He was accompanied by Head of Operations Tahir Abbas and others.
