JICA plans state of art MNCH centre, radiology dept in CHK

KARACHI: A delegation of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) visited Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) to discuss a proposal for further up-gradation of Radiology Department and construction of a state of the art maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) center in the health facility, it was learnt on Thursday.

A four-member delegation of JICA paid a visit to the Civil Hospital Karachi on the directives of Government of Japan and met with Medical Superintendent Dr Mohammad Taufiq and AMS CHK Dr Arif Niaz.

The representatives of JICA visited different wards of the hospital to review the health facilities being provided to patients.

Dr Arif Niaz, while talking to PPI, said the delegation of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) visited institution to review the healthcare facilities and also offered up-gradation of radiology department and construction of a new building for paediatric and Department of Obstetrics and  Gynaecology in the hospital.

He informed that the JICA delegation will visit health facility next month again to further discuss the proposal. He hoped that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Sindh Government and JICA will be signed soon for the construction of 8 to 10 storied new building near the Jail Ward and up-gradation of the Radiology Department.

He said three floor would be allocated to Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, three to paediatric units, while one floor would be for parking and one for laundry services.

He said new MRI, CTscan, and other diagnostic machines will also be installed.

Earlier, the Government of Japan through Japan through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) had also helped the Sindh Government in expansion of the state of the art Child Health Institute in North Karachi.
