Lack of basic facilities in Safari Park regretted

Karachi: Justice Helpline President Nadeem Ahmed Shaikh here Tuesday regretted lack of basic facilities like electricity and potable water in the Safari Park after K-Electric severed power connections of the park due to bill default.

Nadeem Shaikh said it is a pity that the Karachi Zoo and Safari Park lack basic facilities. He said depriving animals and birds in these parks of water due to non-supply of electricity is violation of wildlife law and other rules. He said the KMC and related departments should pay the utility bills on time, as they earn a lot of money from entrance fee of these parks.

He demanded to upgrade both Karachi Zoo and Safari Park as per international standards by improving facilities there so that more and more visitors are attracted towards them. He said by installing solar panels and small wind mills, the Karachi Zoo and Safari Park could generate much needed renewable energy.

Sources said that the KE previous day had disconnected power supply of the Safari Park which was later resorted on assurance of the Karachi mayor Waseem Akhtar that outstanding bills will soon be paid.
