Larkana campus of QAUEST faces financial crisis

LARKANA:The Quaid-e-Awam Engineering University, Larkana Campus has been facing financial and administrative crisis for past ten years.

It was inaugurated by the then President Asif Ali Zardari and since then its construction has not been completed due negligence of the relevant authorities. Since last three years its budget has not been released and its temporary campus in the city also lacks required facilities.

The new building of this campus is located at Areeja Road which needs completion which was scheduled to be completed in 2013 but still it not completed.

Six batches have so far graduated from the temporary campus established on Airport Road but batches of 2015 and 2016 have not yet been registered with Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) due to which fate of 500 students is hanging in balance.

Utility bills of telephone and electricity and unpaid due to unavailability of funds due to which phones have been disconnected depriving students of WiFi facility. Since 2016, 350 employees of the university are being paid their monthly salaries after obtaining loan from private bank as no budget has been released to this Campus since 2016.

The entire transport fleet including three large buses and six coasters is rusting as there is no fuel to run them on roads. Students of all five districts of Larkana division besides other districts are enrolled and getting professional engineering education in this University campus.

In this connection, Dr. Intesab Hussain Sadhayo, Director of the University told newsmen on Sunday that since last 10 years no budget has been provided due to which work of the university has not been completed. He said we received approved budget up to 2016 and since then we are still awaiting funds. He said due to unavailability of funds we are facing issues of monthly salaries to the employees and running transport, adding salaries are being disbursed on OD coming from Nawabshah.

He said classes are regularly held but we cannot give latest technology to the students for want of funds. Assistant Director Finance Ambar Mughal, Deputy Provost Hostel Akhtar Hulio and Siraj Bhutto said that so far no minister has visited this campus to see what is happening here. They said in this university campus, mechanical, civil, electronics electrical engineering department are available but laboratories have insufficient material. They said the requirement of registration with PEC has not yet been fulfilled. They demanded of the provincial rulers to own this institution or close it permanently if they cannot provide required budget for it.
