Mayor for establishing a training institute for nursing staff

KARACHI:Karachi Mayor WaseemAkhtar said on Tuesday that all efforts would be made to establish a training institute for nursing staff, so Sindh government should provide funds for Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases (KIHD) like they did for National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD).

“Considerable changes will be brought to health and other departments of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) if it gets its OZT share of Rs 6 billion payable by the Sindh Government. All issues pertaining to nursing staff in KMC hospitals will be solved,” he said while addressing a ceremony at Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases on the World Nursing Day.

Municipal Commissioner Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman, Vice Chairman DMC Central Syed Shakir Ali, Chairperson Medical Committee of City Council Naheed Fatima, Sr. Director Health and Medical Services DrBirbal and other officers were present on this occasion.

The mayor said they had got those hospitals in quite deplorable condition where even oxygen was not available for patients; however they were using all available resources to bring about improvement in the institutions which provides health care facilities to people of Karachi.

He said KIHD is one of the main cardiac care institutions in the city, therefore; the Sindh government should give grant to it so that it could perform better.
