KARACHI:The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases(NICVD) has done wonders in last few years by providing state-of-the-art cardiac treatment to every individual at their doorstep totally free of cost.

Talking about NICVD Karachi, the spokesperson said that NICVD Karachi received 1,123,633 cardiac patients with 3,847 cardiac surgeries. A record number of 8,197 Primary Angioplasties, 4,286 Angioplasties, 9,052 Angiographies, 20 TAVI Procedures, 3,434 Thallium and 55,258 Echowere performed in 2018. A record number of 410,175 cardiac patients visited our OPD, a huge number of 326,587 patients have been treated in emergency and more than 60,000 patients had been admitted and done their procedures in the last year. It is a matter of great pride that NICVD Karachi has performed more than 120 Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery.

With extraordinary efforts of Executive Director NICVD Prof Nadeem Qamar and endless support of Sindh Government, NICVD has been transformed into one of the best cardiac tertiary care hospitals in the world, the spokesperson of NICVD said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Regarding Satellite Centers, he told that NICVD’s satellite centers throughout Sindh Province have been providing state-of-the-art cardiac treatment to the native at their doorstep totally free of cost. NICVD Sukkur, NICVD Larkana and NICVD Tando Muhammad Khan have started open heart surgeries and it is a great achievement of NICVD Sukkur by performing 130 open heart surgeries with zero mortality.

Spokesperson further added that in NICVD Sukkur a total number of 137,702 cardiac patients treated, in NICVD Tando Muhammad Khan 160,028, in NICVD Larkana 43,914, in NICVD Nawabshah 38,345, in NICVD Hyderabad 33,431, in NICVD Sehwan 22,436, in NICVD Khairpur 27,689 and in NICVD Mithi 13,831 cardiac patients have been treated.

NICVD has introduced the unique chest pain unit program; which has been providing accessible care to emergency patients in congested metropolis of Karachi free of cost. There are currently a total of seven chest pain units; which are located under Gulshan-e-Chowrangi Flyover, under Gulbai Flyover, under Qayyumabad Chowrangi Flyover, under Malir Halt Flyover, under Nagan Chowrangi Flyover, near I.I. Chundrigar Road and at Lyari General Hospital. These CPUs have treated more than 150, 000 patients, out of which approx. 5,000 patients were with a severe heart attack, who were immediately shifted to main NICVD for primary angioplasty.

Prof Nadeem Qamar said that 10 more chest pain units will be placed within next two months. He added NICVD Karachi and its satellite centers cater to population not only from Sindh but also Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab Province as well.
