Retired Sindh govt employees demand group insurance payment

LARKANA:All the retired employees of Sindh government are facing serious hardships due to non-payment of group insurance amount to them which is presently allowed to their families on death but in KPK and Balochistan, it is being paid on retirement of a government servant.

In this connection, several employees, including Nand Lal, Ghulam Rasul Kandhar, Mumtaz Soomro, Ghulam Mustafa Korejo, Nabi Bux, Ghazanfar Shaikh and others, complained to newsmen here on Sunday requesting for highlighting this major issue urging the Sindh government to review its policy.

The group insurance is deducted from first salary of a government servant which continues till last payment, they said. If any government employee gets invalid retirement from service due to total disability, he/she is clinically alive but physically and mentally dead for family and society, they alleged, because of non-payment of group insurance amount.

They said that in Balochistan 80% assured amount of group insurance is paid on retirement and 100% on death and they issued such notification on February 15, 2011. The KPK government changed the name of group insurance as Contribution Fund and it is paying 100% assured amount on retirement or death and they also issued such notification on 06th November 2014, they further added.

They further explained that the deducted amount of group insurance is paid to State Life Insurance which has to pay the amount on retirement or superannuation of age and there will be no financial burden on Sindh Government, whatsoever. They said that only agreement made with State Life need to be amended which will bring all the provincial government servants at par throughout the country including Punjab where this matter is already under review. They appreciated the government move to allow its employees to retired who have completed 20 years service all monetary benefits which are allowed to those who are completing 25 years qualifying service but Finance Department has not yet issued such notification which must be issued.

They further argued that normally insurance companies pay substantial amount to the policy holders after the maturity of policy which is 10 to 20 years period then why Sindh government servants are deprived of this established policy specially to low paid employees.

They appealed to the Chief Justices of Pakistan and Sindh to order thorough probe into the matter are reports of embezzlement and get us our group insurance amount immediately as most of aged employees are also suffering from deadly diseases.
