Smart-phone app being introduced for pediatric hormonal disorders

KARACHI:National Institute of Child Health in collaboration with Sindh Health Department has decided to launch smart-phone based application for registry of pediatric endocrinology or pediatric hormonal disorders patients of Sindh province.

These views were expressed by Executive Director, National Institute of Child Health, Prof Jamal Raza during inaugural ceremony of 1st International Symposium on Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes held at a local hotel of Karachi. The two –day event was organized by Society of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Pakistan.

Prof Jamal Raza said there was no national and provincial level data registry of pediatric hormonal disorders while there was no quality data available about pediatric diseases in Pakistan and collection of data was considered tough job.

He informed that a smart-phone application had been developed for registration of pediatric hormonal disorders which provide clinical guideline, emergency guideline, medicines detail, information about doctors and disease management guideline for family. He said family member of patient can easily register their patients in mobile phone based app and this technology will provide complete data of pediatric hormonal disorders kids.

Prof Jamal Raza said NICH is also introducing thyroid hormone testing facility for the children with hormonal disorders and this facility would be extended across the Sindh province in cooperation of Sindh Health Department. He said test would be performed free of cost and screening of newborn babies would be done through this facility.

He said aim of organizing symposium is to address pediatric endocrinology which deals with endocrine-related conditions in children including growth disorder, early or delayed puberty, ovarian and testicular dysfunction, Diabetes, hypoglycemia, obesity etc.

President Pakistan Pediatric Association Prof Dr Gohar Rahem appreciated the NICH and Sindh Government for introducing smart-phone based applications for registry of pediatric hormonal disorders.

The national and international speakers from Australia, UAE and Dubai, who are experts in their fields spoke on various topics related to growth, diabetes and other hormones in children.
