Solar power plant, plantation drive inaugurated at HU

KARACHI: The 500-KW Grid Tie solar power system and a plantation drive were inaugurated in Hamdard University Karachi’s main campus, here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest and ECO of PRETTLl Company Germany, Steffen Thiefelder said that the Germany had sun for 156 days only even then we are taking full advantage of solar energy as every roof in Germany is occupied with solar panels. Pakistan should take advantage from solar panels because the country has sun for 365 days.

He congratulated Hamdard University, saying this university has taken initiative by installing a solar power plant at its Karachi main campus. “We are specialist in this technology and the panels in this solar power system are made by the South Korean’s company FEFU that has special expertise in this field”, Steffen added.

Vice Chancellor Hamdard University Prof. Dr Shabeebul Hasan said according to the vision of founder-chancellor, Hakim Mohammad, Hamdard University is an eco-friendly University which had taken many steps to put positive impacts on socio-economic and environmental condition of the country.

He said the current start of plantation drive and installation of solar power plant at Hamdard University are the initiatives of same nature. The additional electricity which would receive from the solar plant would be supplied to other industries, thus Hamdard University would contribute to minimize shortage of electricity in the country.

He said that the total cost of this plant is Rs50million which would be recovered within three years and after five years the plant would be at zero cost , because 50 percent of university’s electricity requirements would met by this plan.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed between PRETTL group of companies and Hamdard University Karachi on the occasion.
