Sports: Athletics: South Asian Junior Athletics C’ship begins next week

Karachi: Pakistan’s 12- member national team will participate in the South Asian Junior Athletics Championship, which begins May 5 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) announced a 12- member national team last week for the event.

Chaudhry Iqbal Akhtar will be the group leader while Qazi Tanveer and Semi Rizvi will accompany the team as coaches.

The 12-member team consists of eight male and four female athletes.

Mohammad Wasim, Mohammad Hamza, Hassan Raza, Mohammad Shahzad, Younis Waqar, Moeed Baloch, Abdul Razaq and Ghulam Mohiuddin will represent Pakistan in men’s events while Tehreem, Esha, Saqa and Noorul Ameen will represent the country in women’s events.

Eight countries will participate in the event including Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Afghanistan, Bhutan and Nepal.

Pakistan men’s team will take part in six – 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres race, 4X400 Relay, 4X400 Relay race and disk throw competitions while women will feature in three events namely 100 metres, 200 metres race and 4X400 Relay race events.

The team is scheduled to fly on May 4 for Sri Lanka for the two-day championship.
