Sports: Squash: Jan Sher wants federation to work on junior players as well

Karachi: Pakistan’s former World Champion Jan Sher Khan says that to help Pakistan its lost glory in the game of squash, efforts has to be made on junior players junior players along with senior players at the academy.

Jan Sher Khan, the record holder of World Open tournament, also said that Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) should raise its voice in the international court of justice for being sidelined by Indian lobby.

“In Professional Squash Association (PSA), Indian lobby has been continuously working not to allow Pakistan hold tournament of less than USD 50,000 to 70,000 for men and similarly in case of women less than USD 30,000,” alleged Jan Sher.

He said that holding tournaments of USD 50,000 to 70,000 for men and USD 30,000 for women have advantages only for the international players. It was rather proving unproductive for the local players.

“As a matter of fact, our players get no chance to secure points in such tournaments. In the end, international players take away high prize money from Pakistan.”

“On the other hand, Indian lobby in PSA events has been successful to grab Indian open tournaments for men for USD 35,000. PSA has approved them to hold such low prize money tournaments with open arms, which is quite unfair,” he accused.

He also complained about below par living conditions at Pakistan National Squash Academy (PNSA) for players. He said that there should be accountability of officials at the academy as it has not provided results as expected.
