Edhi Foundation reported today the recovery of 200 unclaimed bodies in Karachi in the first half of 2026, of which 13 were women. The discovery of these bodies, which were found on streets, riverbanks, and abandoned properties, raises alarming questions, especially since the causes of death are unknown.
In the breakdown of statistics, the highest number of recoveries was seen in January with 31 men and 2 women. In February, 23 men and 1 woman were observed, while March recorded 22 men and 3 women. In April, 30 men, in May, 40 men, and in June, the highest number of women were seen, with 41 men and 7 women recovered.
Alarmingly, this trend continues into the second half of the year. In the first four days of July, the bodies of 3 more men were discovered. All bodies have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and identification processes.
Edhi Foundation has been at the forefront in handling these bodies with dignity, even as the city grapples with the impact of these findings. As the situation continues to evolve, authorities are urged to accelerate efforts to resolve the questions surrounding these deaths and bring solace to potential families.
