Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial President Syed Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha has termed July 5, 1977, as a significant day in the democratic journey of Pakistan. It is the day when the democratic foundations of the nation were notably challenged, resulting in the beginning of an era of dictatorship.
In a statement today, Bacha emphasized that this day, now known as Black Day, symbolizes betrayal of public trust and an overt attack on the constitutional process. He highlighted the enduring legacy of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, whose sacrifices are a beacon in the ongoing quest for democratic governance.
He asserted that although authoritarian regimes may attempt to suppress the voice of the people, they can never extinguish the spirit of democracy. Under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the PPP is committed to the mission of upholding constitutional integrity and the right of the people to self-governance.
Bacha reiterated that the People’s Party has always opposed dictatorship governments and unconstitutional actions throughout its history. He assured that the party will continue its commitment to safeguarding democratic principles, no matter what challenges arise.
