SaleemShahzad acquitted in yet another case

KARACHI: A former leader of the MuttahidaQaumi Movement, SaleemShahzad, was acquitted in a ransacking case on Tuesday after the prosecution failed to present any proof against him.

While hearing the case, Additional District and Sessions Judge (East) observed that no concrete proof had been presented before the court and he acquitted Shahzad in the ransacking case against him.

The court had earlier acquitted Shahzad in three other cases which were lodged against him in the ’90s at the Malir and Landhi police stations pertaining to murder, kidnapping, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation and rioting.

However, he is still facing criminal trialsinAnti terrorism Court, a case pertaining to harbouring and treatment of alleged terrorists at the DrZiauddin Hospital.

PIA Scouts’ Shaheen Leader Course concludes

KARACHI: General Manager PIA and Assistant Provincial Commissioner Training QamarShamim has said that the world’s most unique and popular social movement of youth is Scouting.

“Over 45 million scouts are serving in 161 countries. PIA Scouts leaders play due role in encouraging national unity and patriotic enthusiasm of young scouts across the country,” he said while addressing the closing ceremony of the Shaheen Leader Course. The course was conducted at PIA Scouts Training Center, Gulistan-e-Johor.

Provincial Secretary Shamas Khan inaugurated the week-long course. Twenty-nine scout leaders, including girl scouts from across the country, participated in the course. The course leader was MohammadUsman, deputy leader was WaseemuddinQureshi, and course secretary was MsTasawwurAttique.

Air Scout District provided lodging and boarding facilities for course participants. The training session consisted of lectures on religion, character building, international scouting, social development, healthcare, scouts expertise and the responsibilities, perwaz system and other activities in training.

Outdoor meeting was held in PAF. All campers participated in the last night grand camp fire. At the end, chief guest QamarShamim gave away the certificates and scarfs to the successful Shaheen Scout leaders.

Court: (WafaqiMohtasib calls on CJP)

ISLAMABAD: Syed TahirShahbaz, WafaqiMohtasib (Ombudsman) of Pakistan paid a courtesy call on the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice MianSaqibNisar on Tuesday.

They discussed the issues of mutual and judicial interest. The CJP presented souvenir as token of respect and gesture of goodwill.

Bhutto’s death anniversary: SHC, sub-ordinate courts to remain closed today

Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice on Tuesday announced to declare 4th April as holiday for the SHC and sub-ordinate courts on the occasion of the 39th death anniversary of PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

The notification issued here read, “The Honorable Chief Justice has been pleased to declare 4th April, 2018 (Wednesday), as holiday for High Court of Sindh (Principal Seat, Bench and Circuit Courts) and Civil & Sessions Courts in Sindh as well as Federal and Provincial Tribunals/Special Courts working under the administrative control of this Court on the occasion of 39th death Anniversary of ShaheedZulfikar Ali Bhutto, Ex-Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, as declared by the Government of Sindh,”

Dipl: (Turkish, Pakistani foreign ministers discuss situation in Indian occupied Kashmir)

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister KhawajaMohammadAsif telephoned his Turkish counterpart MevlutCavusoglu and discussed the situation in Indian occupied Kashmir.

Turkish Foreign Minister on this occasion said we are deeply worried and saddened about the casualties and injuries.

He said we find it essential that the necessary precautions are taken to ensure that the tension in the region is reduced immediately and that the civilians are given maximum care.

ATC acquits three accused in murder case

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday acquitted three accused who were alleged to be a murderers of one MeharGul Khan.

Police said MeharGul Khan was murdered by the accused in jurisdiction of Soldier Bazaar police station in 2013.

After recording evidence of witnesses and concluding arguments from both sides, the judge of ATC, who conducted the trial, acquitted the accused, Mohammad Afzal, Faizan and Bilal over lack of evidence under the Article 497 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

A case was registered against the accused in 2013 at Soldier Bazaar Police Station.

PM: (PM directs to ensure uninterrupted power supply during Sehr, Iftar in Ramazan)

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister ShahidKhaqanAbbasi has directed power division to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers during Sehr and Iftar timings in the month of Ramazan.

He was chairing a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Energy here on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Minister for Power SardarAwais Ahmed Leghari, Adviser on Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs Miftah Ismail and senior officials of concerned ministries and departments.

The meeting discussed issues related to the energy sector load management plan for the coming months especially during Ramazan. Discussing reform agenda in the power sector the Committee emphasized the need for early completion of need-assessment for procuring quality human resource.

The committee directed the power distribution companies to take effective measures to reduce line losses and improve recoveries of the power dues.
