Pakistan, China reaffirms commitment to ‘Iron Brotherhood’ and ‘All-Weather’ friendship

Islamabad, September 06, 2020 (PPI-OT): Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Nadeem Raza who is on a two days official visit to Moscow, held a meeting with China’s Minister of National Defense General Wei Fenghe on the side lines of Defence and Security Cooperation Conference at SCO Forum.

Matters related to changing geostrategic environment and further strengthening of security and defence cooperation between the two countries were discussed during the meeting. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to ‘Iron Brotherhood’ and ‘All-Weather’ friendship with continued efforts to forge deeper strategic ties for a shared future and security vision.

EU lauds Pakistan for its success in containing COVID-19 pandemic

Islamabad, September 06, 2020 (PPI-OT): European Union has applauded Pakistan for its success in containing the COVID-19 pandemic and managing the unprecedented challenge very well. In an interview with APP in Islamabad, the EU Ambassador to Pakistan Androulla Kaminara said the data from World Health Organization over the past few months, suggests that COVID-19 cases and deaths are on a steep decline in Pakistan.

She said it is heartening that Pakistan government’s measures such as smart lockdowns as well as testing and tracing have helped slow down the spread of virus considerably. The EU envoy also appreciated the government’s positive initiatives to stimulate the economy during the difficult time and also to help those segments of population, which have been particularly affected by the pandemic.

Pakistan is a peace loving country but it will respond befittingly if war is imposed on it: Army Chief

Islamabad, September 06, 2020 (PPI-OT): Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa says Pakistan is a peace loving country but it will respond befittingly if war is imposed on it. Addressing the main ceremony in connection with Defence and Martyrs Day at GHQ in Rawalpindi, he said Pakistan demonstrated this in response to the botched attack on Balakot.

The Army Chief said we are ready to respond immediately and with full force to any action of the enemy. He said Pakistan has gone through a great ordeal in the last twenty years and faced wars on eastern and western borders. General Qamar Jawed Bajwa said we fought a nerve-wracking war against terrorism and extremism in which thousands were martyred and millions were displaced.

He said India by illegally abrogating the special status of Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir has once again threatened the peace of the region. He said there is no doubt that Kashmir is a recognized dispute and Pakistan does not accept any unilateral decision in this regard.

On the occasion, the Army Chief conferred military awards to army personnel for acts of gallantry during various operations. In all, 40 officers were awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military), 24 officers and soldiers Tamgha-e-Bisalat and a soldier was awarded United Nations Medal. Medals of Shuhada were received by their family members.

Federal Govt allocated 62% while Sindh Govt 38% funds for development of Karachi: Planning Minister

Islamabad, September 06, 2020 (PPI-OT): Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umer says the federal government has allocated 62 percent while Sindh government 38 percent funds for development of Karachi. He was addressing a press conference along with Minister for Maritime Affairs, Ali Haider Zaidi and Minister for Information Technology, Ameen ul Haq in Karachi on Sunday.

Asad Umer said the federal government has always been ready to work with Sindh government for development of the province, including Karachi. He said there is a need to work together for development of Karachi beyond politics.

KIIR chief hails UN SR for raising concerns over HR situation in IIOJK

Islamabad, September 06, 2020 (PPI-OT): Chairman Institute of Kashmir Institute of International Relations, Altaf Hussain Wani has appreciated the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights for raising grave concerns over widespread human rights violations in the occupied Kashmir, especially the closure of the State Human Rights Commission by the government of India.

In a statement, the KIIR chief while terming it as a healthy development said, “The UN SR’s letter to the government of India vindicates our stand on the rights violations, extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearance and abuse of rights by the Indian state. He said that the letter should serve as an-eye opener for those who have chosen to stay silent on the simmering situation in the held territory especially after the events of 5th August 2019.

Meanwhile, the KIIR chairman also appreciated HRW for expressing concern over the use of pellet guns in Kashmir. Wani said that the human rights watchdogs have always voiced their strong reservations over use of firearms and live ammunition insisting that such kind of lethal weapons must never be used simply to disperse an assembly.

In a tweet on Sunday, he said as we pay homage to our war heroes, he still recalls, as a 13 year old, the 1965 war vividly. He said he can never forget the unity when nation stood resolutely as one against the enemy. The Prime Minister said it’s this spirit we need today to make Jinnah’s Pakistan.
