Law enforcers cook up stories to arrest Muslims, top Indian police officer reveals

New Delhi, July 13, 2021 (PPI-OT):N. C. Asthana, former Director-General of Police in Kerala, has taken a jibe at law enforcement agencies in India for presenting cooked up stories to arrest people, mostly Muslims, on terror-related charges.

N. C. Asthana in a tweet ridiculed by saying, ”Al-Qaeda, ISIS, PLO, etc. may or may have been eliminated from the world but their modules are always found by our police in this country. They present them when needed. Aren’t these people bored by telling the same clichéd lie? Think something new, tell a new story.”

The former DG Police made the remark days after the Anti-Terrorism Squad in Uttar Pradesh arrested two people alleging their links with al-Qaeda. The police claimed to have recovered explosives from the possession of the accused.

In India, several Muslims are arrested on terror-related charges but most of them are found innocent and are released after spending many years in jail. Thus, the process to get justice becomes a punishment for them.

Recently, over 120 Muslims, who were booked in 2001 and jailed for one year by the Gujarat Police, were discharged by a court as the police failed to substantiate their allegations with proof.

Victim of fake terror case recounts his sufferings

New Delhi, July 13, 2021 (PPI-OT):Eleventh of July is remembered in India as 7/11 because of the Mumbai Train blasts of 2006. New Delhi-based publisher Pharos Media has just brought out “Innocent Prisoners”, the English version of Begunah Qaidi authored by Abdul Wahid Shaikh, himself a victim of a fake terror plot by Indian agencies.

The book, written while the author was incarcerated in Mumbai’s Arthur Road jail, was originally published in Urdu and later translated into Hindi. Now available in English also, it is a massive work in 504 pages on tactics agencies and police use to ensnare innocents in fake terror cases to justify government policies and influence citizens of the country to accept the emergence of a security state in India.

The author himself was a victim of this ensnaring tactic who was acquitted by the Special MOCA and NIA Court Mumbai while his co-accused rot in jail and their appeal is pending for the last six years in Bombay High Court.

Shaikh offers first-hand information about agencies and police tactics on implicating innocent people, fabricating false evidence against them and use torture of victims and the immoral pressure on their relatives to force them to confess to crimes they never committed or implicate other innocents.

The book is basically about the 7/11 Mumbai train blasts case but also covers German Bakery blasts 2010, Malegaon Blasts 2006, Aurangabad Arms Haul case 2006, Akshardham attack 2002 and the “Indian Mujahideen” plank used by agencies to fabricate cases. It also extensively covers police torture, fabrication tactics and various strategies police and agencies employ to implicate innocents and force them to make false confessions to prove stories concocted by the agencies and police.

This exposé offers startling details of the heinous games played in India by the State through police and agencies for decades in the name of “terrorism”. This book unveils the ugly face of government and agencies, modus operandi of police, ATS and investigation agencies, their inhumane tortures, legal tactics employed and the secrets of court cases. Innocents implicated in terror cases will find courage to fight their legal battles through this book. The reality of the blast cases and the tall claims made by police and media are exposed in great detail in this book.

The author himself was a victim of torture and tactics of police and investigation agencies. He has narrated first-hand experiences of himself and some other innocent prisoners at the hands of police, investigation agencies and officials of the jail system.

This book is not just a testimony of the innocence of a person acquitted of all charges in an infamous “terror” case, it also showcases his unmoved resolve to fight the legal battle for his and other victims’ freedom. It also is a manual on how not to get yourself entangled in the vicious web of false implication in the first place and how to secure freedom from the clutches of heartless people in uniform, if arrested.

The author, Abdul Wahid Shaikh is a teacher at a Mumbai school. He was the only person to be acquitted out of the 13 accused in the 11 July 2006 Mumbai train bombings case because till end he refused to sign a false confessional statement while his other co-accused succumbed to pressures and signed their false confessions which were used in court to sentence them to death and life imprisonment.

Shaikh completed his post-graduation and studied law during his nine years in jail. Keeping his promise to his co-accused, he frequently travels around the country talking about the truth. A Hindi feature film based on his life will soon be released. Even years after his acquittal, cops continue to harass him.

Another sinister plan of Hindutva bigots comes to light

New Delhi, July 13, 2021 (PPI-OT):Days after the ‘auctioning’ of Muslim women online, another sinister plan of Hindutva bigots has come to light. Now they are urging Hindu men to sexually exploit Muslim women by marrying them with the intention of making them public property.

An Instagram Handle Kunal Sharma, who describes himself as ‘Katter Hindu’ (Extremist Hindu), put up an objectionable post on social media, reported South Asian Wire.

“Marry with Muslim girls, use considering them as government property, get pleasure yourself and offer others too, this will be sabka saath sabka vikas (development for all),” said Sharma in his post.

Sabka saath, sabka vikas is an election campaign slogan which Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been using since 2014.

The details of Sharma’s sinister plans came to light after a Twitter handle Adab-e-Hindustan posted them on social media.

Sharma not just posted it on social media but also provided a list of phone numbers, said to that of Muslim girls. The list has 10 phone numbers with the headline ‘A campaign for Cajoling Muslim women’. According to the list, these girls are mostly from Delhi or the NCR areas.

He offers the list to his friends as a ‘gift’. He said he also talks to a Muslim girl whose number he has saved as ‘mulli’.

According to South Asian Wire Sharma shared two phone numbers with some people who contacted him as interested parties.

South Asian Wire tried those numbers. While one number was not working, another one was picked up by a woman who said that she was fed up with the calls coming from the media since morning.

Another screenshot of Sharma’s profile says that he is ‘anti-Muslim’, he has problem with Muslims but he loves Muslim girls.

A photo of Sharma with Shringi Yadav has also surfaced. Yadav is the follower of controversial Hindu priest Narsinganand. He is the one who had beaten up a Muslim boy for entering into Ghaziabad’s Dasna temple to drink water. Yadav was jailed for assaulting the teenager but later granted bail.

In an Instagram post, Yadav also talked about molesting Muslim women at the time of Holi festival.

Meanwhile, a number of people have tagged Ghaziabad Police demanding action against Sharma.

Congress media panelist Pankhuri Pathak asked Ghaziabad Police, Child and Welfare Minister Smariti Irani as well as National Commission for Women whether they are responsible to provide security to these women or not. She said that it is clear that personal numbers are being made public instigating people to commit crimes against these women. “Are you waiting for an incident to happen,” she asked.

Congress’s chairman of minority wing Imran Pratapgarhi also asked the UP Police why it is silent on this.

There were others too who urged police to take action in the matter.

AJK President calls UN role in Kashmri dispute ‘disappointing’

Muzaffarabad, July 13, 2021 (PPI-OT):President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Masood Khan has deplored the role of the international community, mainly the UN, in the long-standing Kashmir dispute, calling it “conspicuously disappointing.”

“The UN role in Kashmir has been conspicuously disappointing because practically it has taken a hands-off approach, though they realize Kashmir is the elephant in the room,” Masood Khan said in an exclusive interview with Anadolu Agency on the occasion of Kashmir Martyrs Day, which is being commemorated across the Line of Control (LoC).

The Kashmir Martyrs’ Day is observed on July 13 every year not only on both sides of the Line of Control but also all over the world by the Kashmiris to pay homage to 22 Kashmiris who were martyred by the forces of Dogra ruler in 1931. They were demanding freedom of Kashmir from the despotic Dogra rulers.

“The US wants the status quo, an option preferred by India, and the European Union is hamstrung. But the citizens of the world can be mobilized. Today, for the Kashmir cause, the streets are more promising than official chambers – bilateral or multilateral,” AJK President said.

By ignoring the Kashmir issue, Khan added, powerful nations which claim to be the custodians of international law are “underwriting impunity for crimes against humanity” in Jammu and Kashmir.

India wants ‘cosmetic’ engagement

Khan, a veteran diplomat who served as Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN from 2012 to 2015, contended that New Delhi is looking for a “cosmetic engagement” with Islamabad for “good optics” following the scrapping of the valley’s decades-long special status.

India “wants to give a false impression that Pakistan is ready to live with the changes India has made since Aug. 5, 2019. But Pakistan has not. Pakistan has made it clear that it would not hold any bilateral talks until it reverses its actions of August 2019.”

Replying to a question about the resumption of long-stalled peace talks India and Pakistan, Khan said bilateral talks in the past on Kashmir have never produced results because India’s sole purpose is to “bury the issue for all times to come.”

“That’s not acceptable to Kashmiris. I see little utility of such talks if the Kashmiris, whose fate is at stake, are not sitting at the negotiating table. The official international community has no desire for playing a role to resolve the issue,” he added.

Referring to the reaction of the international community to India’s actions in August 2019, Khan said: “In the immediate aftermath of New Delhi’s move, influential parliaments and international media called out India and castigated it for its illegal actions.”

“India was held accountable. The UNSC [UN Security Council] also met informally to discuss the perilous situation in the region, and there was a groundswell of support for the besieged Kashmiris. But the momentum frittered away after three months,” he said.

“Now the unfolding tragedy in Kashmir is buried under the heavy burden of the global geostrategic agenda.”

The controversial move, he said, could not even get support from pro-India politicians in Kashmir, and has further bolstered the “legitimacy and appeal” of pro-freedom leaders.

“Even before August 2019, pro-India politicians had completely lost their credibility. The bulk of the captive Kashmiri population saw them as henchmen of Delhi and in fact facilitators of the reign of terror in Kashmir,” he said.

After August 2019, he argued, these leaders were “disparagingly dumped by their masters.”

“India looked for their substitutes but had limited success. These pro-Indian leaders bent over backwards, their blackmailing caveats notwithstanding, to stage a comeback,” he said.

“The Modi government wants to co-opt them for getting their support for illegal demographic changes in the state and delimitation of the constituencies to give more representation to the Hindus in a future legislative assembly.”

On the other hand, he added, the “legitimacy and appeal” of the Hurriyat Conference leaders – Syed Ali Geelani, Yasin Malik, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Asiya Andrabi and Shabir Shah – remains “as strong as ever.”

Kashmiris’ participation Khan said Kashmiris should be seated at every table that discusses the issue, and should be part of any political or diplomatic process that is initiated on Kashmir.

“Kashmiris should not be pushed to the sidelines as spectators when their fate is being decided. We know they want to join Pakistan. But until they do so, through a referendum, their voice is sovereign,” he said.

Referring to the Ladakh standoff between China and India, Khan observed that the development has made a difference.

India’s “Lebensraum,” he added, has been stopped in its tracks and Kashmir has gained more visibility and prominence worldwide.

“It has, ironically, also accentuated the issue’s complexity and intractability, which suits India. Kashmiris want a solution, not a perennial status quo and the vicious cycle of violence to which they are subjected every day,” he contended.

Unethical reporting draws flak in IIOJK

Srinagar, July 13, 2021 (PPI-OT):After the authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) issued an advisory for media while reporting the suicide cases in the valley, senior journalists in valley attributed the unethical reportage on suicides and domestic violence due to the penetration of social media in mainstream journalism.

Senior journalist Ahmed Ali Fayaz said the regular media and social media has amalgamated, and in social media, anyone with a Facebook page, a smart phone and a logo is reporting on sensitive issues without knowing the journalistic ethics.

“There are guidelines while reporting on suicide cases, domestic violence cases, in case of minor there are Juvenile courts. A professional journalist understands the limits while reporting on these subjects, but unfortunately names and photos are made viral, identities are disclosed, which is completely an unethical journalism practice,” he said.

He further said any item to be published in any credible media institution goes through many gates before it is published, “but with the many social media platforms, they hardly know these guidelines or study them, even they don’t have any accountability, and keep on posting on the sensitive matters.”

Fayaz said media houses should take up the issue with the authorities concerned to not to encourage the people who resort to unethical journalism, and bring a bad name to the noble profession.

Another prominent and veteran Journalist Yousuf Jameel told media that a responsible approach has to be shown while reporting these incidents, rather than glamorising or sensationalizing the suicides.

“We can write how it spoils the families. What are the miseries it leaves behind for family and friends, which can also act as an educative piece,” he said.

While reacting to the guidelines issued by the authorities, he said, the journalism profession has not confined to only professional journalists now, it has become free for all.

“The legitimate and genuine media institutions have their own editorial policies, and are fully aware of publishing policies, but the institutions who are far away from the editorial policies or don’t have the one, are publishing anything whatever comes their way, without knowing the nature of sensitive stories,” Jameel said.

“There are so called journalists, who are active on social Media using different social media platforms, and have started an accusation rant on people, and a time will come when we people will hold us by collar if they come to know we are journalists,” he said.
