Indian police raids on residences of journalists in IIOJK denounced

Srinagar, September 10, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the journalist bodies have condemned the police raid against four journalists, Hilal Mir, Shah Abbas, Azhar Qadri and Showkat Motta.

Various journalist bodies, including Journalist Federation of Kashmir (JFK), Kashmir Working Journalists Association (KWJA), Kashmir Press Photographers Association (KPPA), Kashmir Press Club (KPC), Kashmir Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ), Kashmir Journalist Association (KJA) and Kashmir Video Journalist Association (KVJA), in a joint statement in Srinagar said the raids by armed forces carried out at the respective residences of these journalists is a stark reflection of how authorities in the territory are targeting journalists.

As per the eye-witnesses, the statement said, forces’ personnel laid, what appeared to them, a massive cordon in the localities of the respective residences of the journalists. According to family members, mobile phones, laptops and other gadgets of the journalists and their family members have been seized.

“Journalists in Kashmir are working amidst immense pressure, especially since the last three decades. Many of our colleagues have lost their lives or sustained injuries while discharging their professional duties,” the statement added.

“The cases of harassment against Kashmiri journalists are growing with each passing day and no words are enough to indicate the levels of strain the media is facing. The assault on freedom of press in Kashmir continues and it appears condemnations made in each case by media groups have fallen on deaf ears in absence of any respite,” the statement concluded.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Hurriyat forum in a statement issued in Srinagar said, it understands that no two conflict regions are the same and the differences between Afghanistan and Kashmir are well-known. It said, “We in Kashmir can surely empathize with the common people of the country [Afghanistan] who also have been living in a state of acute uncertainty for forty years.”

“Long term uncertainty takes its toll and we hope that people of Afghanistan will come out of it soon. We also hope that as the country begins the process of building its own future and realizing its aspirations all regional and international member countries will extend their support to it,” the forum added.

It also hoped that the new dispensation in Afghanistan is inclusive and broad based and bears in mind that Islam as a religion is unambiguous in advocating human equality and rights, economic fairness and religious tolerance as foundational values. It also hoped that these values will be the guiding principles of the new dispensation both in letter and spirit, as well as keeping up with internationally accepted norms.

Visit of Parliamentary Committees merely an eye wash: JKRCEA

Jammu, September 10, 2021 (PPI-OT):Jammu and Kashmir Reserved Categories Empowerment Alliance (JKRCEA) has said that the majority of the Parliamentary Committees including Parliamentary Committee for Welfare of SC, ST and OBC have visited the J and K Union Territory for only ‘befooling’ the common masses.

It was stated by leaders of the alliance during a press conference, organised here. The Committee members who visited the J and K took photo sessions of the said communities to show the international community that the present Government is doing work as per the constitutional mandate but actually is merely an eye wash.

They added that the Indian Government had claimed that about 300 MPs and a dozen Committees would visit the J and K and interact with different sections of the society but unfortunately none of them have visited the Jammu province. They also criticised the ‘stooge’ SC and STs Leaders who have been spreading propaganda among the masses that the present dispensation is doing best for the welfare of the communities.

“The Parliamentary Committee for SC and STs during its five day visit at J and K had pure mandate to look into the education, employment, economic and other welfare issues of these communities but ironically they skipped Jammu from their tour and preferred the interaction with SCST Employees association of BRO, BSF, ITBP, NHPC, DRDO and so on which represents only Central departments,” said Prof GL Thappa, adding that it was mockery of Parliamentary system of democracy where parliamentarians ignore the general public.
